‘Leading Lady Plum’ is a step ahead, blooming in early summer, well ahead of other bee balms. Forming smaller clumps than your average bee balm, this compact, low-growing 10-14” tall cultivar blooms right into midsummer. Bravura lilac-purple blossoms held by purple bracts float over densely branched plants with alluring, aromatic, dark-green foliage. Flower petals are prettily sprinkled with dark purple spots. Plants deliver two successions of blooms: once the first bloom begins to fade out, a new show of flowers grows above the first flowers. Great in the landscape or creating drama in a patio container. A surefire hit with frequent-flying butterflies, hummingbirds, and honeybees. Moderate tolerance to powdery mildew.
