Double-deck portable light garden with two large shelves.
This is a double-deck lightweight, portable light garden with two large shelves that holds 48 six-packs or eight full-sized XL Ultimate or Ultimate Growing Systems. The improved design has two low-profile light fixtures each with four LED tubes. The LED tubes use only 56% as much power; have two times the life and provide more light energy than our present T8 units. Light produced is Cool White for plant starting. Accommodates standard grow trays. The unit is constructed with rich brown coated, strong aluminum extrusion. The double-deck Garden Cart is a great performer for indoor gardening.

I find this product to be exactly what I expectedI bought two of these systems, then bought two more, and I will be buying two more in the next few months for next spring. I grow plants not just for me but for people around the neighbohood and at church too. Yes the shelves do need acouple thin boards or plywood to sit on the support bars just because it is hard to slide the flats on and off the two bars. My only fault with the light systems are that they need to be about two inches wider, I have a problem of the outside plants streching, so I find myself having to rotate the 10 pack pea pots or the 3 inch pea pots as the plants bend inward to the lights. I do grow in excess of 1,000 plants on these systems, between cool weather then hot weather and again the cool weather seedlings. Please do not forget that you need to have a fan to move the air in the room that you are growing you plants infor several reasons.

Not as PicturedI bought this to use in my spare bedroom to start plants in the spring and I was expecting it to be all painted as shown...the end brackets are painted but the lights themselves are not painted as shown. The light covers are just plain steel color. I would have shipped it back for a return but I cut up the box to support the seed starting trays before I realized something was wrong. Burpees was no help with the issue and it was clear they did not read the entire e-mail I first sent them by their response, they just passed off my number to the vendor who supplied it. The vendor was fantastic, they are shipping me a replacement end bracket for free because the one I originally received was bent.

Very sturdy! But much larger than statedFirst the good: the unit is clearly very sturdy, more so than appears in the photo. It will hold 8 standard sized flats. The new LED lights are very bright and well shaded so that you will not be blinded by them unless you bend down to look up. Now the not so good: the unit is much larger than the measurements provided on the Burpee website. It is about 9 inches higher and 3 inches deeper than stated. However, the correct measurements are as stated in the hard copy catalog. It does not fit well where I intend to place it but not so much that I would return it; but I'm not happy with the size error. Otherwise it would have been a 5 star rating.
There were no assembly instructions in the package but the very nice and helpful folks at customer service saved the day and emailed them right over. Overall it's a very nice unit just be careful with the size being much larger than shown on the website.

Very flimsy! This is not at all what I expected. I didn't pay close enough attention to details. Beware! The lights are hanging from chains and swing every time it is bumped. The screws didn't all work. We had to go buy longer screws to put it together. It does NOT come with any type of trays. It only has two bars to set your trays on. I have seen other teacher's grow tables and thought mine would be comparable. It is not. I wish I had ordered from a different company. The price is way too high for the quality.

Works very well.Started many plants (over 200) throughout this season with great results. Easy to assemble. However, agree with other reviewer you have to play with cardboard and duct tape, or whatever, to provide flat surface for heating mats. (My husband did this.) Would have been nice to have one already. Like how can adjust height of the lights. However, as I like to keep heating mats on at night and just turn off the lights, found I had to turn off switch, unplug lights and turn switch back on for mats. Very inconvenient.
Next year will start even more flowers and herbs. Plus, plan on using to keep herbs going inside throughout winter. Not much sun that time of year in this part of Ohio and last year mine didn't make it.

Great, Strong ProductI was a little unsure of buying something for $460 that a few other reviewers stated wasn't strong. The review from Burpee saying they redesigned it appears to be true. The cart is strong. It is primarily built of square tubing attached with bolts. I think I'd have to deal some serious abuse to break it. Certainly, there will be no problems from planting dead weight or the kids curiosity.
At first I considered buying the parts separately and then making it myself, but the options I was looking at would save me maybe $10 (with similar size and light quality) and because I wouldn't be guaranteed that the parts would fit together I decided to try to the Burpee starter.
I have owned it for a few months and have started a few things (parsley, pepper, 'chicken salad') in different container types (typical, large plant container) and it works as expected and works well. I will do more starting over the next couple of months.
Things to consider to make the system work a little better:
I also bought the 4' grow mats from Burpee-- they fit together well-- not perfect, but well. The disadvantage is that you will warm the entire shelf, even if you are only growing on a part of it. Still, I like it. fits well and helps the seeds to start-- which I've had good success with despite the starter being the cooler basement.
I recommend getting a thin board (thinner than plywood) and putting that on the 'shelf'. The shelf is made by having 4 tubes travel across the cart. So put a thin board there to hold containers that are different from the typical seed starting pan (it doesn't need to be strong to distribute the weight and make a flat surface).
I also bought a surge protector from Home Depot that has a timer built into it. I was able to replace the one it came with, by drilling one hole. Now my heat stays on 24/7, but the lights are on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours, without anything from me.
Just to recap; it works exactly as expected and it is durable. There are more things to buy to make it work a little better.

Improved, more efficient designWe have improved design of our lights to give even better growing results and now have low-profile light fixtures with 4 each of T-8 fluorescent bulbs. This is 29% more efficient than our previous model and has a CRI (Color Rendering Index) of 85 (compared to direct sunlight that equals 100). Our grow light has been increased in depth to handle the standard size grow trays and all joints have been strengthened for more stability. The two-tier Garden Cart is now an even better performer for indoor gardening.
