These are the most heat tolerant vegetables:


Note many of these cannot take extreme heat.

  • Snap Beans (greenbeans) most can        only take moderate heat
    •  Desperado, Provider , Contender, Lazy Housewife, Seychelles
  •  
  • Southern Peas (like black-eyed peas, cowpeas) – Built for heat and drought.
    • California Blackeye No. 5 , Phenomenal
  • Eggplant– Big fan of long, hot summers (needs warm nights too).
    •  Black Beauty , Rosa Bianca
  • Melons(Cantaloupe, Watermelon) – Thrive in heat but need lots of water.
    •  Hales Best, Charleston Gray, Crimson Sweet, Charentais

 

  • Hot Peppers– Hot peppers especially (like jalapeños and habaneros) thrive in high temps.
    •  Jalapeno M, Early Jalapeno, Anaheim, Habanero, Hungarian Wax, Poblano
  • Sweet Peppers: Mulch roots to keep soil cooler
    • Gypsy, Sweet Banana, Shishito
  • Okra – Practically lovesheat; thrives in hot, humid weather.
    • Burpee Variety: Clemson Spinless, Burgundy
  • Sweet Potatoes– Both the tubers and the edible greens handle heat easily.

  • Malabar Spinach – Not a true spinach, but it lovesheat and humidity.
