  1. Locate a flat area that receives sun for most of the day, it you live in a very hot area, partial shade is prefers. Optimal composting temperatures are between 120-150 degrees inside the drum.
  2. Start by adding a layer of "brown" Materials to the composter
  3. Next, add a layer of "green" materials
  4. You can add a few handfuls of mature compost from a previous batch or top soil This will help to jumpstart the decomposition process.
  5. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Add water to the compost if it feels dry. It  is wet use the drain for removing  compost tea
  6. Rotate the drum a few times at least 2-3 times a week.
  7. Depends on various factors like, temperature, moisture levels and the mix of materials compost can take anywhere from a few weeks to several months to fully mature.
  8. Compost is ready when it is dark, crumble and has a earthy smell.
  9. Once  mature remove compost but leave any unfinished material behind to continue composting.
