
Get out your trusty cast-iron skillet to prepare this simple, satisfying dessert.
Ingredients
- 3 apples
- 3 pears
- 5 Tbsp butter
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- Sprinkles of: cardamom, cinnamon, ground ginger
- 1 cup oats
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- Pinch of salt
- Ice cream for serving
Instructions
- In an oven-proof skillet, combine peeled and cored sliced apples and pears. Sauté with 2 Tbsp of butter, a bit of sugar, a splash of vanilla extract, a sprinkle of cardamom, cinnamon, and ground ginger. Cook over medium heat for about 5 minutes, until the fruit begins to soften.
- In a small bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, a pinch of salt, and 3 Tbsp butter cut into chunks. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the butter into the mixture until it forms a crumbly texture; then sprinkle the mixture over the fruit.
- Bake at 400°F for about 40 minutes, or until bubbly and golden. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
