These evergreen shrubs thrive with little care and are very tolerant of heat and drought, rabbits, armadillos, air pollution, salt, and alkaline soil. Most will survive temperatures as low as 20 degrees.Oleander is extremely poisonous*. Eating even small amounts of any part of the plant can make a person or animal severely ill or cause death. Contact of sap with skin may cause irritation.
