In late spring when their tender cousin gladioli have not even have been planted, or are only just emerging from the ground, this lovely heirloom is already in its glory. And what a display it is! Long flower stalks are covered with purplish-pink orchid-like blooms, often with a touch of a white throat, above pointed sword-like foliage. Brilliant combined with peonies and iris in a vase. Hardy fall planted bulbs couldn’t be easier to add to your garden.
