Italian Sandwiches

Going to a potluck or picnic? Try this quick make-ahead sandwich, which is simple to store, slice and serve.

 

Recipe:

  1. Slice 1 whole loaf of ciabatta in half horizontally. Spread both sides of bread with mayonnaise, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and a sprinkle of dried oregano.
  2. Layer with sliced provolone, mortadella, salami, hot capicola, leaves of fresh crunchy lettuce, large basil leaves and pickled banana peppers or your favorite giardiniera. Close and press down firmly, securing with toothpicks.
  3. Wrap the whole loaf in plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate until ready to serve. Slice and serve!
