Short Description

The fruit of choice for gourmet jellies and jams.

Full Description

In early summer along the Atlantic coast, from Maine south to Maryland, hardy gourmets head to the shore to collect the wild beach plums growing in the dunes. Eaten directly from the plant, they are tart but ripen to a very sweet flavor; the stuff of gourmet jellies and jams. As an ornamental plan, beach plums with their lovely white flowers are now the talk of the town and are prized for their many uses in fashionable desserts.

Prunus maritima is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 1.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Beach plums on the beach I bought four Prunus Maritima (beach plums) and planted them on the beach in front of my home May 15. This beach is Massachusetts north shore, where beach plums are native! Dormant branches stayed dormant, yet new branches grew and foliage appeared after ten weeks. We watered and weeded throughout. Foliage remains intact and we hope for more growth, flowers, and fruit in the second season. These started slower than we wanted, but seem established now. For someone with patience, this is a beautiful choice!
