Farmer's Market FAQs

The Farmer’s Market program is a new offering of handpicked seeds in larger packs for the farming community. This seed selection consists of Burpee Bred items, Fordhook Farm and novel offers, including a few organic varieties. Packets are available in seed count and ounce (oz) size packets.

Fordhook Farm is also known as Burpee Farm. This historic Farm is located in Doylestown PA. It was purchased in 1888 by W. Atlee Burpee, the seed company’s founder. This is still the site where varieties are “grown, tested and evaluated on a 60 acre test farm.” This is also the birthplace of Burpee’s Big Boy tomato, and others which are still grown around the world on many farms and in home gardens. Today the homestead and the Burpee Seed company is owned and home to George Ball, a “proprietor and avid gardener.” .

Today, among an assortment of 71 varieties, there are 21 Burpee Bred varieties to choose from. These varieties can be found in Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant, Squash, Orka and Sunflowers. The remainder of the varieties are comprised of proven field selections and market exclusives that have been tested and trialed, producing excellent field results. .

Burpee has never sold or bred GMO seeds, and we do not intend to do this in the future..

Yes, Burpee offers four selections of organic seeds in lettuce, carrot, arugula and squash. We also offer a selection of Heirloom seeds for growers as well. Additional Organic offers can be selected and ordered from the website in smaller packet sizes as well.

Several seed packets sizes are available to choose from. They come in sizes of 500, 1,000, 25,000 and ounce (oz) packets.

The easiest way to purchase seeds is to visit the Farmer’s Market section of the Burpee website. Select the Farmer’s Market tab and create an account. Once an account is created, you can shop the entire Farmer’s Market variety list by variety name

Yes. These items can be added to your cart in smaller pack sizes. These items will ship with the Farmers Market items.

Yes, orders can be phoned in, during weekdays 9am-5pm EST during the off-season period and during the peak season which begins November 1. Yes. If you place your order online or provide your e-mail address when ordering over the phone, you will immediately receive an order confirmation e-mail with a shipment tracking number provided. Seeds will have a U. S. Postal Service (USPS) tracking number. Most live plants will have a UPS tracking number. However, First Class Mail tracking information cannot be provided for sweet potato and onion plants. (Please note that onion sets arrive via UPS and will have tracking numbers.) If you place your order by mail or do not have an e-mail address you wish to provide for your account, please call our toll-free customer service line, 1-800-333-5808, to receive shipping information for your order.
