How to Sow Radicchio
SOW seeds in sunny area in late spring after danger of heavy frost and again in
midsummer for a fall harvest. Sow thinly in rows 8-12" apart. Cover with 1⁄4-1⁄2" of fine
soil.
How to Grow Radicchio
Thin to stand 8-12" apart when seedlings are 2" high. Do not plant too early in spring or
plants may bolt and go to seed. In early fall, cut off all leaves above the crown. New growth
in cool weather produces the small, red, cabbage-like heads. Culture is very similar to growing
lettuces.
Harvesting Radicchio
Harvest radicchio heads after a light frost by cutting them just below the soil surface.
Radicchio makes a great lettuce substitute in salads, and the leaves can also be sauteed or
steamed.
