Cucumber, Palace King Hybrid
Very thin skin, mild flavor, and crisp texture.
These beauties are over 1' long but only 2" in diameter. Very thin skin, mild flavor, and crisp texture make this one ideal for salads and hors d'oeuvres. For perfect cukes, grow them on a fence or our space-saving Trellis Netting. Sow seeds 6" apart in rows, or plant 5 or 6 seeds in groups (hills) 4 to 5' apart.
Sow in average, well-drained soil in full sun in spring after danger of frost. Sow 4-6 seeds about 3" apart in hills 36" apart. Cover with 1" of fine soil; firm lightly and keep evenly moist. A trellis is essential for this variety to grow long and straight. Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days.
How to Grow
Thin seedlings to 2-3 per hill when they are 2-3" high. Since cucumbers tend to be shallow-rooted, they need extra water in dry weather. They can stop growing if they become too dry but will usually start growing again when conditions improve. Mulching the soil can help keep the roots evenly moist. Do not plant squash family crops in the same place 2 years in a row.
Pick cucumbers at any stage of growth, but before they become larger than the cultivar should grow. The more you harvest, the more the plants will produce; pick the fruits daily, or at least every other day, when the plants are at peak production. Asian cucumbers have an extremely mild flavor, and they are also very easy to digest.
