Blue Lake has white-seeded, straight, 6" long stringless pods that stay sweet and tender-crisp even at full maturity. They're great fresh or frozen. A 2 oz. seed pack will plant a 20 ft. row or 10-16 poles. Pole beans yield much longer than bush beans, right up to frost. Plant 4-6" apart at the base of poles, trellis, a fence or our Bean Tower.
Sow in average soil in full sun after danger of frost, spring to early summer. In rows 18-30" apart, Sow seeds about 3" apart and cover with 2" of fine soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist.
How to Grow
Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days. Thin to stand about 6" apart when seedlings are 1-2" tall. Bush snap beans are ready for harvesting 45-60 days after sowing, while pole snap beans are ready in 60-80 days.
Pick when pods are firm and crisp with undeveloped or small seeds. Harvest very often to avoid tough, stringy pods and ensure plant productivity.
