Sow in average soil in full sun after danger of frost, spring to early summer. In rows 18-30" apart, Sow seeds about 3" apart and cover with 2" of fine soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist. Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days.
How to Grow
Thin to stand about 6" apart when seedlings are 1-2" tall. Lima beans generally require warmer temperatures than snap beans. Bush limas mature in 70-80 days. Pole limas mature in 75-90 days.
Fresh limas are unusually sweet, tender and flavorful. Limas ripen from late summer to early frost. Pick when pods are full and plump; or let pods mature, cut plants and dry well, then shell beans for later use. Limas and other shell beans are shelled and cooked, and they can also be baked.
