Sow asparagus seeds (to produce roots) outdoors in early spring one year before setting roots. Cover seed with 1/2"of soil.
How to Grow
Set asparagus roots as early in spring as soil can be worked in trenches 6-8" deep and 12-15" wide. Space roots 18" apart in row. Rows of asparagus plants should be 21/2-4’ apart.
Begin to harvest the third spring after initial planting. (Harvest the second spring after planting if you start from 1-year roots; harvest the first spring after planting if you start from 2-year roots.) Pick for two weeks during first harvest season. Pick for 3 weeks during second harvest season. After the asparagus plants have fully grown, harvest for 4 to 6 weeks. Steam, grill, or saut tender shoots.
