  • Verbascum, Southern Charm Hybrid is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Truly Charming The first year they were not much to look at, although the potential was apparent. This, their second year, they have lived up to all that I had hoped. Full of soft warm spires of color well before my summer perennials will put on their own show, they are the perfect addition for continual interested in the mixed bed or border. I have them at the back of a terraced border that receives sun all afternoon and evening, and is lightly amended clay. Early in the season, I'm just happy to see green foliage, and by the time the rather untidy weedy appearance of the leaves start to bother me the foliage of the Echinacea is blocking enough from view that it never really becomes a problem. People have actually been slowing down on this rural road to gaze at my gardens, with only cat mint, salvia, and a few spring bulbs as concurrently blooming companions. I can only surmise that others are as charmed by this plant as I am. I must say I did manage to kill a few. Well drained soil and enough sunlight appear to be the biggest demands of these low maintenance plants.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Doing nicely I planted several of these last Fall in, frankly, not a terribly good location. I have been surprised this Spring to see how quickly they've grown, how large they have become, and how early they bloomed. They may not be well suited to the sort of heat that is coming, but for now they are a welcome spot of color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from lovely verbascum I planted these from seed indoors and moved them into the garden. They bloomed beautifully the first year and look lovely in a cottage garden. They are still blooming in August (make sure you deadhead them).

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Classy and unusual Ths plant reminds me of a cross between foxglove (foliage) and delphinium (bloom stalks) but with warm buttery pinks and faintest orange blooms. They were generous with flowers last year, even though I had started them from seed that February. Already awake and BIG with foliage this year- excited to see what they'll do now that they're a year old!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful Verbascum I am soooo excited! I started these by seed in side this year. I planted them all around my garden fountain and they just started to bloom!!! What a beautiful site! So many complimants, I love my flower gardens this year thanks to Burpee!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from pretty I ordered this plant several years ago. It has been spindly and short lived in the clay soil, though I have improved the soil repeatedly. However, I have gotten many compliments from people walking through the neighborhood. I have moved to a different area, still in northern Il, but this used to be farmland and has beautiful black soil. I am reordering this plant and hoping for better results in improved soil. It is a very pretty plant, with a nice, old fashioned look.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My favorite Flowers I have had these Verbascums in my garden for several years. They have been consistent performers and are a beautiful peach shade with pink accents. They don't like very hot sun and tend to wilt a little in the late afternoon. They also need a little staking to look their best but I think they are worth it.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Southern Charm Zone 6. May need stake/cage during rain/wind. Color is unique pastel combo. Has three flushes during the growing season. Color has an eclectic appearance in the garden.
