How to Grow

Lunaria, also know as "money plant," produces foliage the first year and makes money the second. While the seedpods are the main attraction, the flowers are nicely scented as well as pretty. Plants self-sow with enthusiasm. Cut off the stems of seedpods to keep the number of seedlings under control.

Harvesting

Grow lunaria in wild gardens, along shrub borders, and in informal plantings where seedlings can grow where they may without affecting the design. They are nice fillers among hostas and other shade-loving perennials. To use the seedpods for dried arrangements, cut them once they have turned from green to brown, and hang them in a warm, dry spot to let seeds and valves fall. Use your fingers to gently loosen any valves that do not fall naturally.
