Dianthus, Rainbow Loveliness Mix
Uniquely lacy blooms loaded with fragrance.
These fragrant, antique charmers have intense, sweet-and-spicy aroma. Deeply cut, lacy flowers in shades of rosy pink, lilac, white, purple and red on long stems. May bloom the first year from seed if started early. Great for perennial borders and annual beds.
Sow outdoors in a sunny area with well-drained soil after danger of last spring frost or in late summer 12 weeks before ground freezes. Sow thinly and evenly and barely cover with fine soil. Keep evenly moist.
How to Grow
Seedlings emerge in 14-21 days depending on soil and weather conditions. Deadheading will encourage more continuous blooms and keep the plants looking neat. Blooms in summer.
Dianthus is lovely along the front of the border, as an edging, and in cottage gardens, rock gardens, and containers. Combine dianthus with other perennials that appreciate well-drained soil, including coreopsis, columbines, speedwells, hardy geraniums, sedums and thymes. Dianthus also makes a beautiful cut flower.
