How to Sow
Daylilies can adapt to poor, clay, or sandy soil but prefer a soil that is rich, with good drainage. The daylily plants do best in full sun; they can tolerate partial shade but do not bloom as prolifically.
How to Grow
Repeat bloomers flower more continuously if you remove the spent flowers. For propogation, divide the plants in fall or spring. Daylily plants are among the easiest, lowest-maintenance perennials you can grow.
Harvesting
Daylilies come in all sizes for the front, middle, and back of the border. They make excellent edgings or landscape features planted in long rows. Grow the smaller cultivars in containers. All types can be cut for fresh flowers, and some cultivars are sweetly fragrant. Daylily plants are ideal for a beginning perennial gardener.
