How to Sow
SOW outdoors in well-drained soil in full sun after danger of spring frost. Cover seeds with 1/4" of fine soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist.
How to Grow
Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days. Thin to stand about 15" apart. Prune established plants back by one-half to two-thirds in early spring if they are getting too large or leggy.
Harvesting
Sage is used in sausages, poultry, meat, bread, dressing, vegetables, omelettes and stuffing. Sage leaf tea is useful in treating colds and for aiding digestion. Try the leaves as a flavoring in breads and stuffing or with meats or vegetables. The large size, attractive mounding habit, and textural leaves of the plants make them highly ornamental in the garden. Use them as a corner accent, or mix them with perennials, annuals, and other herbs in a cottage garden.
