Gardening Tip of the Day

  • When it comes time to thin seedlings grown indoors or in beds, use a manicure scissors to cut the stems off at soil level. This method, unlike pulling up the seedling root and all, will not disturb the tender root systems of seedlings left to grow on.

When transplanting seedlings grown indoors, gently lift them up by one of their new leaves not by their fragile stem. Tender stems can be crushed with a little pressure and be quickly damaged.

If seedlings prove difficult to lift, use a pencil or thin strip of wood to get them up.
