Gardening Tip of the Day

  • Don’t put all outdoor window boxes or larger containers into winter storage just yet. They make excellent containers for holiday or winter decorations. Using a window box or large stone urn or other container, fill it with some soaked oasis floral foam. It can be purchased at most florist shops or garden centers. Fill with an arrangement of evergreen branches such as pine, fir, cedar, spruce, magnolia, and holly. Add stems of plants that bear winter berries like pepper berries and cotoneaster. Using small gauge wire or florist wire, wire pinecones onto the branches and add other natural ornaments such as cranberry garlands.
