72 and 36 Cell Greenhouse Kits is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 36.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good for the Classroom I bought the 36 cell grower about 2 years ago, and have used it every semester since. I just use regular potting soil instead of the soil starters. The holes in the bottom of the 36 cell tray are very large, so you have to be careful about added soil falling through the bottom if you move them, but if you make sure the soil is moist before you place them in the tray, and don't move the pots too much, its fine. It works great for growing small plants indoors.(My students grow Arabidopsis, or Mouse Ear Cress, and they can grow it to maturity within the tray.) I have ended up cutting the plastic tray apart so they can move their plants to different growth conditions. I'm trying the 72 tray this time to see if it will work for effectively separating the Arabidopsis plants while they grow to maturity. I have also used other small pots on the watering system, which keeps me from having to watch the water levels as closely as I might otherwise need to do. (I can go home for the weekend! ;) I do not use an algacide, but I do soak the watering mat in bleach after each use, then carefully rinse it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of time and money. I bought this kit hoping to get an early start on my garden. As it turns out I wasted my time and money. The plants never grew strong enough to place outside. As a last ditch effort I tried to transfer them to the garden. They where absolutely impossible to get out in one piece. I will never try this again.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from works great I bought this product to start Head Lettuce in our greenhouse. After reading the reviews I was not sure it was a good purchase. It worked great. The reviews said people had a problem with the pellets expanding. I put the correct amount of water in the bottom tray, then sat the upper tray with the pellets in each compartment in the bottom tray with the water and they expanded perfectly.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Didn't work as advertised I followed the directions and the soil pellets did not expand as advertised. I ended up using a fork to break them up even after they sat in water for a day. I purchased this for an easy no mess solution and it was a lot more effort than necessary and I haven't even planted the seeds yet.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from You need to improvise a bit. I also couldn't get all of the pellets to expand, but some of them did. And some of them just needed to be manually ground up enough to plant the seeds. So I could not use all 36 cells, but of the ones I did - 90% of my the seeds started to grow within four days and three days later green beans and sunflowers are 5-6 inches high. I'd use it again, just knowing it's tough to use all 36 cells.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pellets did not expand after hours of soaking. Worst product pellets did not expand. waste of time and money.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disaster - Don't waste your money I've been soaking the pellets in warm water for 1 hour. They aren't expanding. What a waste of time and money.
