32 XL Cell Self-Watering Ultimate Growing System is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 98.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor design I used this product this spring and was very disappointed. The lids to the trays did not fit properly. And the pellets that were supposed to expand into a potting mix never worked. I had to wet them down and then break them up in order to be able to plant anything in them. It was much more work than just adding potting mix to the cells.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Hard to use I bought this for gourd starts. I will never buy another one. Following your directions my gourds did not grow right. I am on limited income i cant start over. I bought some some special gourd seed....boom it killed them. Makes me cry

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great idea, poor product I bought the 32 seed started kit and the pellets did not expand as suggested by the advertising. I'm new to gardening so I thought this would be a good way to ease my way into it... Unfortunately, I can't even get the dirt to grow. How can I expect to get plants to grow? Great idea burpee, terrible product.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well for me! I have used this system for the last two years and it has worked well for me. Some of the pellets due not expand as much as others, but I have found that if I keep adding water they will eventually puff up. I just transplanted over 32 tomato plants from this system into larger containers to get them ready for hardening off.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Convenient kit for seed starting I read and followed the directions carefully. It worked very well. I used very warm water and added it in thirds about 2 minutes apart. It did take the pellets more than a few seconds to be fully expanded but I expected that. I watered and then went back to it a couple of hours later then fluffed the mixture with a fork before adding the seeds. You want to make sure that the black self watering mat touches the bottom of the tray so it stays in contact with the water. They quality was what I expected.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Pellets did not expand well. Very disappointed in the 32XL cell self watering system. Pellets did not expand well after adding warm water.......had to add starting soil to the unit instead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Worked well I bought this last year and it really did the job. I agree with others that the pellets do not expand as easy has I hoped, but it really wasn't that big of a deal, I got them to work just fine. Ordering new pellets for this year's crop!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Waste of money After two hours of soaking pods were still dry and not absorbing water. Still can use container system I'll just use my own dirt.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Easy setup with ample instructions This is the first time I used a seed starter kit. The instructions were very detailed and there was a blow out image to show how the tray went together. Another image that showed the pellet to soil, was also nice. After taking the package apart, I followed the instructions to soak the wick mat in warm water and then put the pellets in the tray. I watered each pellet as I went along and while I was setting up to take video the initial pellets began to grow. It didn't take long before the entire tray was ready for seeds. I planted my seeds and carried the tray upstairs, where I added some more water in the bottom. Very easy. I had seeds sprouting the next day.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do not buy!! I have used Burpee seed for over 30 years and I enjoyed reading their catalogue. But, I bought this seed starting kit and trust me when I say it is a big waste of money. The pellets DO NOT expand as shown in the video. The top does not clip on and a slight breeze will blow it off. I cannot Burpee would sell this product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Disappointed All I can say is that I tried. I followed the instructions to the letter and the results weer dismal. What seedlings that did grow did not survive once transplanted outdoors. And they were nothing exotic, just white marigolds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Flimsy plastic outside container. V poor quality pellets that disintegrated when wet. Plants were difficult to take out. V sorry that I bought this from Burpee

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Super Growing Pellets - do not expand We just planted ours yesterday - overall I believe it will prove to be a good system. The "super growing pellets" do not expand as they say they will - we followed the directions closely and about 6 of the 32 pellets expanded as they say - but it took much longer than "seconds" - we allowed overnight and 80% of them were still in their original state - or close to it. We had to break each one up by hand and they had hard chunks in them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The product did what it said it would I planted eggplants, peppers, and tomatoes using this product. I have beautiful plants. I left for Red Sox spring training for the entire month of March plus 1/2 a week in February and April. It probably helped a lot that I was using Burpee seeds. I also had some uneven soil expansion but used the product anyway and again it worked great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from XL Utimate Growing System I started my pepper and tomato seeds in 2 of these trays. The plants grew well and looked great ( ready for transplant!) with minimal attention! I hope to buy soil refills for next year and reuse the trays!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good system but recommend peat pellet medium. This system grew seeds into great plants. I am glad I bought it. I was, however not pleased with the expansion of the included pellets. Some expanded better than others. So I removed them to use with potting soil and instead used large peat pellets.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good idea - could be improved on though Cool idea - great packaging. "Pellets expand in seconds" is overstating the case a bit. Yes some do, but others do not. Greenhouse dome does not fit very nicely over the planting tray. It should easily and snugly fit so the wind does not blow it off. I'm concerned that my seedlings are too wet. The expanded pellets are soggy and the seedlings appear somewhat unhealthy. I took them out of the watering tray to let them dry out a bit - hopefully, this will help.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent water/moisture control I bought one of these last year, and a second one this year. The seeds I planted in these Growing Systems had a better germination rate than my other flats or containers. The included clear cover really helps contain moisture during germination, and the bottom tray hold several days of water. They hold a lot of seedlings too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not for seeds which take a long time to germinate. I made the mistake of planting seeds with a lengthy germination time. I had a mold problem. The seeds were Impatiens.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from XL Ultimate Growing System I ordered tomato plants and this growing system. I have never planted tomatoes from seed and not sure how successful it would be - so ordered plants. The plants came yesterday and your Growing System yielded 20 plants (now over 1 1/2 foot tall) - I used your tall transplant containers. The plants are fantastic - great system! I also planted squash seeds and have 10 big healthy plants! The only questions I have: 1. does the tall biodegradable containers really dissolve when you plant them, or should I remove the plant? The transplant soil from you really makes it easy to transplant. 2. What organic bug control for squash, potatoes, and tomatoes do you recommend, also need spray for fruit trees (peach & plum). Thanks

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Second time around Last year I bought a indoor green house and a local start kit...My seeds did grow but they didn't do well when I put them out to harden...This year I wanted to try again and do it right so I did my research and found the Ultimate Growing System at Burpee's and so I ordered two...This system was so easy to set up and get my seeds started..In fact within a week I saw sprouts and after that they went crazy..I have since transplanted and now they are outside in my other green house to start to harden...Ordering the XL Ultimate Growing System was the best think I have done...and even when I needed advice..I called and the techs were so helpful...Thanks so much.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best results! I'm still fairly new to gardening...this is my fourth year. I've purchased a couple of other seed starting kits, the past two years. This product gave me by far the BEST results! This year, I used the other two kits as well. Had heated mats and grow lights on all. Used the same seed starting mix and fertilizer products on all. I got viable seedlings from 25% of seeds planted in other kits. The Burpee kit produced at least 75%! I was able to transplant 36 beautiful pepper plants, most of which started in the Burpee kit!.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Disappointing I tried other seed starting systems. They got the seeds going but after transplant the sponges being used kept the seedlings from growing. I had high hopes for this system but the quality of the system is not there. The lid is flimsy, and does not fit well. The seeds do seem to be germinating, but with the lid not fitting they do not have room to grow.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don't work I bought 2 and 6 packs of various seeds, the hybrid tomatoes ( only half of the 25 to a pack ) came up. Of the other seeds, the lupine were the only ones to sprout. I've been nursing them along but the are very weak. I had to give up on the second greenhouse because mold took over. Waste of time and money

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great results! I usually do not have much success with these types of seed starting systems. However, I started tomato, eggplant and peppers. The seedlings/plants are ready to transplant. I have so many, I will share with a fellow gardener. Great price, great results!
