Rated 5 out of 5 by from I won't plant again without it! After 20 years of gardening I used this red mulch last year just out of curiosity. Boy am I glad I did! It saved my tomatoes from early blight by reducing the amount of ground splash on the plants. We had one of the wettest summers in history last year. I had run out of film at the end of one row, and those plants quickly succumbed to blight. It also truly does aid in plant production.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Red is for Real I ordered the red mulch hoping it would control weeds, but it did so much more. My small garden produced more tomatoes for a longer time than ever before. I had to look for places to give away tomatoes. They produced into (dare I say it) November -- That in NY! My husband, a full-time skeptic, was equally amazed and pleased at the result. The 20% increase Burpee boast is a very conservative number. So put down Reflective Red Mulch Film and stand back, your plants will grow like never before!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well if... This product worked well for me in that I saw a noticeable increase in my tomato yield and it prevented evaporation so I was able to conserve water. However it must be used in conjunction with a drip irrigation or soaker hose system. The film by itself is impermeable and even if small holes are poked into it, water will pool onto other parts of the plastic. If the film is placed over a drip irrigation system then "disco" it works perfectly. The fact that I had to purchase a soaker hose to make this work is the reason I did not give 5 stars.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Red For The Bed I'm prepared to attribute the terrific results I had with my tomatoes - cherry and grape - last season at least in part to this mulch increasing yield as advertized; Burpee's plants and red cages played accomplices. Making the mulch look 'neat' is a bit of a chore, but I used garden staples to hold it down. I ran my irrigation lines under the mulch to ensure my plants got their drink, and poked some 2" gashes here and there so that rainwater would get through as well. The ground stayed warm and moist into autumn. Weed growth underneath was minimal. I'd rather not risk disappointment without using this mulch again, so am re-ordering.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Red Mulch I wasted $35.75, plus shipping, on this product last year. It was very flimsy, didn't quite measure the 48" wide as advertised, allowed uncontrolled weed growth underneath it and made the fire ants dizzy with happiness, And finally, there was no way that it could survive a second season.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Prevents water infiktration I bought this a few years ago, and it allowed water to reach the plants. I ordered again last season, and it was different; it was nothing more than plastic film, so water just ran off and did nothing for the plants; in fact, it actually prevented rainwater to penetrate down to the plants. Unless the former quality film is returned, don't waste your time and money on this. It does reflect to bring warmth to the plants, but that becomes unnecessary in the heat and drought conditions of July and August when watering is so important.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A MUST for short growing seasons! My tomatoes had to wait an additional month to be put outside because of late frosts. The poor things had stopped growing in their little cups. I planted them outside with the red mulch around them, and within a week they had doubled in size. In Reno have hot/cold spells and very little rainfall. The mulch keeps the temperature constant and holds in the water. People worry that it's impermeable; I just poke a few little holes in the low points of the plastic so the water can drain into the soil. It's also very easy to stake to the ground.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very Easy This film was incredibly easy install over my raised beds. Not sure yet if it results in increased production, but it definitely is keeping the plant moist and the weeds under control.
