Watermelon, Red Ruby Hybrid is rated 2.3333333333333335 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cross Polination Issue I planted the ruby seedless watermellons last year. I had several vines grow, however there were on 2 vines that were actually the ruby seedless. The other bared 25lb fruits with seeds that resemble the charleston greys that burpee sells. I think maybe the plants cross polinated or the seeds got mixed up during packaging.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from So confused I planted 8 seeds of Red Ruby Hybrid (Seedless) and now have 4 vines. Great! But, I now have 3 melons on 4 vines. #1 is round, green with white stripes, #2 is very oblong and solid pale green, and #3 is round and solid green. Which one is the hybrid seedless? Can't hardly wait to see what's on the inside.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Low germination rate Of all the seeds in the packet, only one germinated, and it remains to be seen whether that was a Ruby Seedless, or one of the pollinator seeds. They were sown in Burpee starting mix in seed trays, received direct sunlight several hours of the day, and were misted with the rest of the (Burpee but not watermelon) seeds, all of which did germinate and are doing fine, now transplanted into the garden.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Seeds I grew these last year and they were fine. But Burpee does not specify which seeds in the packet are the actual seedless variety seeds, and which ones are the pollinator seeds like other companies do.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from NOT LIKE I GREW IN 2010 Last year I would have rated this watermelon a "10." It was soooo delicious. Juicy. Extremely sweet. Red. Never tasted anything like it. It weighed over 10 lbs, though. Only the teeny white seeds that seedless watermelons have. The pollinator is a light-green skinned melon and doesn't deserve a rating. Flavorless and pale in color even though it was ripe. I wish I could tell the difference in the seeds. This year, 2011, the melon did poorly. It got too hot too quickly and I think it hurt the planting. As the pollinators formed, I cut them off as they were terrible. I also planted my own pollinator and those grew. Some weighed over 34 lbs. I only had one tiny Ruby and it wasn't worth picking, although we did eat it. I'll try again next year. Of course, I rotate crops so it will be in a different garden area. Why not give a better tasting pollinator?????

Rated 5 out of 5 by from First time growing watermelon... This was my first time growing watermelons... or anything for that matter and when the time came to operate on a watermelon, I was excited as red juice went all over the counter top. The flesh was a dark red and soft and juicy compared to the less tasty melons at the grocery store. The best watermelon I've ever had. I suppose this melon was a pollinator melon because it had lots of seeds and was long shaped rather than the round shown in the picture. I only have one of the round melons ready to pick off the vine, while I have about 4 pollinators to pick. Nevertheless, these are very good watermelons. I will post pictures as soon as I can of these babies. Thanks Burpee!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Extremly Disappointed!!! I had a beautiful watermelon in the garden. Watched it grow, waiting patiently every day for the day to come that I could pick it and eat it. So the day comes, according to burpee site the melons suppose to be 6-8 lbs. Mine was 14 inches long and weighed in at 11.4 lbs. So I grab my knife and cut into it... only to be extremely disappointed, almost devastated as the inside was slightly red and completely white! and full of dark seeds... Now I am totally bummed for the day and very very disappointed... the 1 GIANT melon outta the bunch was definitely not ready..... :(

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not very good producer The sugar babys did not do very well as last year think it might have gotten to hot to fast for them sinc ethey are starting to get brown on the leaves and very few watermelons on them as well as flowers.
