Watermelon, Charleston Gray

Short Description

Large 28-35 lb. cylindrical watermelons.

Full Description

Flesh is red, crisp, fiberless and delicious; skin is light greenish gray. Resistant to fusarium wilt, anthracnose and sunburn. Ready for harvest 85 days after sowing. GARDEN HINTS: For early fruiting and to overcome a short growing season, start seeds in a warm, well-lighted indoor area 3 to 4 weeks before last spring frost. Before transfer to garden, accustom plants to outdoor conditions by moving to a sheltered area outside for a week. Grow on plastic mulch to control weeds, conserve soil moisture and protect fruit by keeping it off the ground.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Way better than store bought Crimson Sweet waterme These did really good, I started mine from seed, late in the season(end of July), and I was very surprised they did so well. Two plants made 2 melons a piece and were really sweet. Was sad I didn't plant more earlier in the season.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Consistent Producer I have grown this melon for many years. It is the only watermelon that has proven to be a consistent producer in this cool climate at 5000 feet elevation. Nice size, excellent flavor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Charleston Grey Watermelon 1 starter plant placed in garden during the latter part of the growing season. No special attention given other than watering to keep ground moist. Just wanted to fill open spot in garden. Glad I planted this. Mellon cut off vine after first frost weighted over 30lbs. Excellent skin tone with sweet watermellon taste. While I gave no special attention to helping this plant grow, this spring I diffently will plant Charleston Grey's and look forward to another sweet harvest.
