How to Grow Strawberries
Choose a location with light, sandy, well-drained soil with plenty of organic matter or plant in containers. Set strawberry plants so that the crown is level with the soil surface. To grow in rows, space plants 18-24" apart in rows 3-5' apart. Runners will form new plants and eventually form a solid bed. Apply a light mulch to keep weeds down, conserve moisture and keep fruit clean. Watering is very important in early summer and in the fall.
Harvesting Strawberries
Pick the fruit as it ripens, when fully red. Pick with a short piece of the stalk attached.
Regular picking will help maintain fruiting. Fruits are best eaten straight off the plants,
although they can be frozen or preserved.
