Fruits are used for pies, pudding, preserves and candy.
Sweet and tangy, juicy pale orange, red-cheeked fruits lend exotic flavor to salads. Fruits are used for persimmon pies, pudding, preserves and candy, or dried. Persimmons are also used fermented with hops into a beer or made into brandy. A native shade tree with beautiful canopy that turns scarlet to orange in autumn. Fruits are about 1 to 2 inches across. Unripe fruit has a bitter, astringent taste, because of the high tannin content. Eat persimmons when fully ripened.
