How to Sow

Start indoors in a warm, well-lighted area 8-10 weeks before last spring frost. Sow seeds into individual containers filled with seed-Starting mix. Cover to 1/8" and keep evenly moist. Bottom heat applied at 60-65°F speeds germination.

How to Grow

Before transfer to garden, acclimate to outdoor conditions by moving to a sheltered place outside for a week. Transplant hardened-off seedlings to the garden after all danger of frost. These annuals prefer rich, well-dained, sandy soil and full sun. They do not perform well in wet or heavy soil, so take care not to overwater them. Deadhead periodically to prolong bloom season. Verbena require little maintenance once they are established in the garden.

Harvesting

Use verbenas to add bright color to any sunny planting in dry, well-drained soil. Garden verbenas make good edging and container plants. They also attract butterflies, beneficial insects, and hummingbirds to the garden.
