Thunbergia, Alata Mix
Black-eyed susan vine.
Slender, trailing black-eyed susan vines with dark, finely etched eyes peeking out of star-shaped 1" blooms in shades of orange, yellow and white. Hundreds of 1½" blooms. Naturally vining, perfect for hanging baskets, trellis or arbor.
Sow outdoors in a sunny area in spring after danger of frost in North, fall to spring in
South and other frost-free areas. Sow seeds evenly and thinly. Cover lightly with 1/4" of fine
soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist. Seedlings emerge in 14-21 days depending on soil and
weather conditions. For earlier bloom, Sow indoors 8-10 weeks before outdoor planting date.
Keep seeds at 70-75 F. Seedlings will emerge in 7-14 days.
How to Grow Thunbergia
Thin gradually (or transplant) to stand at least 12" apart Starting when plants are large
enough to handle. Plant in full sun to light shade in well-drained soil. Provide trellises or
other supports and train the vine to climb as it grows. Keep well watered through the season.
Pinch or cut back to control the vine's growth. Most can grow to 5-6' in one season. Perennial
in milder areas.
