Sow hollyhock seeds thinly in cold frame or shady border, in early summer, in rows 6" apart. Press seeds to soil, but do not cover. Keep soil moist and protect from sun. Seedlings emerge in 12-21 days.
For early Start, hollyhock seeds may be Sown indoors about 6-8 weeks before outdoor planting time. In frost-free areas, Sow late winter indoors to flower same year. In a warm, well-lighted area, Sow seeds in seed-Starting formula. Cover lightly and keep moist. Seedlings merge in 1-14 days at 70-75 F. Transplant to individual containers when seedlings have at least 2 pairs of leaves. Shift to larger plants as plants grow. Accustom plants to outdoor conditions by moving to a sheltered place outside for a week.
