How to Sow

Sow in ordinary garden soil in a sunny area after danger of spring frost. In mild climates, plant fall to early spring. Sow seeds evenly and thinly in rows 18" apart and cover with 1/4"of fine soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist.

How to Grow

Seedlings emerge in 7-14 days, depending on soil and weather conditions. THIN to stand 9-12" apart Starting when seedlings are 1" high. Transplant seedlings outdoors once the soil warms, no earlier than two weeks after the frost-free date, or after all danger of frost has passed. Gazanias thrive under hot, dry conditions in full sun and poor soil. Give plants plenty of space to ensure good air circulation and prevent powdery mildew. Deadheading plants is recommended for prolonging the bloom season.

Harvesting

To overwinter plants, dig and pot them before the first hard fall frost. During the winter, give plants bright light but keep them cool and barely moist. Plant gazanias along the front edge of beds and borders, or use them to edge a walkway or patio, where they’ll add color from midsummer to fall. Gazanias can also be use to add summer color to rock gardens, and they thrive in containers. They are ideal for seaside gardens and make great additions to butterfly gardens.
