Fall is an excellent time to plant peonies. Plants are shipped when their “eyes” or the small
red buds on the crown are just visible. To plant, select a full sun to light shade site and
work the soil where they are to grow to a depth of at least 1 foot adding some organic matter
like aged manure or compost and a little bone meal. Peonies like a well-drained soil. Plant
with the eyes or buds up, about 2 inches below ground level. Don’t set the plants too deep or
they may not bloom.
