How to Sow
Sow in ordinary garden, in a sunny area with well-drained soil, after danger of heavy frost. (Annual babys breath prefers, but does not require, alkaline soil.) Sow seeds evenly and thinly in rows 12" apart and cover with 1/4" of fine soil. Firm lightly and keep evenly moist.
How to Grow
Seedlings emerge in 10-14 days depending on soil and weather conditions. Thin seedlings to stand 12" apart when they are 1" high. Because the bloom time for annual babys breath is relatively short, many gardeners Sow annual babys breath every 3 weeks until summer to ensure a continuous display.
Harvesting
Like the perennial species, annual babys breath is grown primarily for its tiny flowers, which are ideal for fresh arrangements and for drying. The plants add an airy look to borders and rock gardens.
