Details about my garden and climate:

Willamette Valley, Oregon (between Eugene and Corvallis). I don't honestly know what my Zone is.

We get lots of rain, but this past Autumn, I covered my well-tilled raised beds with black plastic to keep them dryer than the surrounding ground.

I am building "tents" with translucent plastic film on a PVC frame to continue to protect from the rain, provide light, and warm the soil.

The ground below my beds is valley clay, but the bed I have selected for my potatoes is raised ~16 inches and filled with a combination of much better soil and dairy compost. Good dirt.

I already have some potatoes with well developed eyes and/or roots. (It was a bag of taters given to me by someone who forgot them in their garage.) I need to do something with them soon. Should I plant them outdoors in the beds, indoors in pots, indoors in water, or wait?

Thanks for any and all advice.

Tony

June 16, 2014 June 16, 2014 <![CDATA[Potatoes in potato bags ]]> http://www.burpee.com/community/discussion/745/potatoes-in-potato-bags- I have two potato bags and have Yukon Gold in one and a red-skin (can't remember the name) in the other. Both were listed as having approximately the same growth needs and harvest time.

The Yukon Golds bloomed some time ago and I can now find small (1 1/2 inch) potatoes if I dig down a few inches with my fingers. The foliage on both of them has been lush and healthy. However, the reds have never bloomed, some of the foliage is beginning to turn, and I find no little potatoes. No bugs or other insects are noted.

Why have the red-skins not bloomed, and isn't blooming necessary in order for the little potatoes to develop? Should I continue to wait or discard them and plant something else?

<![CDATA[soaking and sulfur??]]> http://www.burpee.com/community/discussion/607/soaking-and-sulfur I've always cut my seed taters in eye filled chunks and let dry before planting.. But i've just read on burpee's facebook about some who soaks them before planting??? And I'm conidering dusting my taters with sulfur before planting. Should I dust the cuts before drying OR does it matter?? Or forget it and use my sul-po-mag ??
