what do to do with strawberry plants at the end of the season?

I had planted 15 plants three months ago and only got a half dozen tiny berries so far. now they are growing faster and getting bigger leaves and runners are starting to appear. I have not done gardening for many years, what am I suppose to do with them now?

That is what I did with my plants. It seemed to work fine.

Maybe you should start over with some new plants and try the other's suggestion of pinching off runners the first year.  Even though the plants often come back every year, I usually replace mine every 3-5 years. Also, is it possible your plants could be an alpine variety? I have a few of those, and while the berries are tiny, they are also deliciously sweet!

One of the tips that I've read is for first year plants. After their fruiting season, pinch back additional runners and flowers so that more of the plants development is directed towards the root system so that next year will be more prosperous.
