Hardening summer squash

In the description of the summer squash their is mention of hardening them with dry heat.  Then they can be used later in the year.  Has any one been successful with this?  Should I leave them in the sun or in a hot attic?  How exactly is this done?  Thanks for your help.

Re: Hardening summer squash

Summer squash are best when picked small and tender.  If allowed to grow large, summer squash become woody and seedy.  I've never heard of hardening summer squash.  Winter squash can be hardened by allowing it to dry on the vine in the sun for a couple weeks until the vine is dry.  Once preparely hardened, the winter squash will keep in a cool dark place all winter.
