Fertilizer

Has anyone used worm castings as a fertilizer, if so is it used alone or do you have to use something else with it? I have always used superthrive along with my fertilizers, it is a very good vitamin and I get great results. I am thinking of starting a worm composter for my grand kids and am also looking for a good way to make one maybe out of a big rubbermaid bucket, has anyone made one out of this?  Thank you for your help    Tracy

Re: Fertilizer

Hi Tracy,

I use the worm castings mostly as top dressing for my potted plants. I don't know the N-P-K ratio. I have a blog post that shows how to make a simple bin: http://botanyspeaking.wordpress.com/2010/10/26/worms-worms-worms/. Outdoors I work them into may raised garden beds as a way to increase the organic content. Hope this helps!

Re: Fertilizer

I currently have a worm farm going here in Idaho. I have a ton of black gold waiting for my garden. Unfortunately this will be my first year using it. But many of my friends have had great results, some with bigger yields than they ever had before. Don't buy a commercial worm farm. I found instructions on the internet as to how to make one out off two rubbermaid containers. It is fun having them. Good luck.
