They are hardy in zones 7-10, they do best in full sun.  Up north they need to be planted in the spring The soil needs to be amended with a lot of organic matter mixed in. You need to space them three inches apart and about 2-3 inches deep. The soil must remain evenly moist. They need regular fertilizer applications though out the growing season. You may find them easier to grow in containers.
