Sowing seeds and rain

There are vegetables that can be sowed directly outside now but we have been getting so much rain lately.  How long do I need to wait to let the beds dry?  We're looking at another week of rain and then a three day break maybe next weekend.

Re: Sowing seeds and rain

What is most important is the soil, second is the type of seeds.  My soil is really sandy and I can plant seeds just after the rain stops.  If you pick up a handful of soil and squeeze it in your hand, does it form a ball that crumbles easily?  If so, plant.  If its muddy and wants to stay as a ball, wait.   You want the seeds to be in a soft bed rather than sealed in mud.  Some seeds such as peas have a tendancy to rot if the soil is too wet.
